2018 Volkswagen Polo Review

The sixth generation of the Volkswagen Polo has arrived at Pulman Volkswagen. It’s hard to believe that the first Polo arrived in this country over 40 years ago. A sizeable chunk of the UK population will have either owned, driven or ridden in a VW Polo.

As with every new generation of any model, the latest Volkswagen Polo is slightly longer and slightly wider than the outgoing model. It also sits slightly lower. The word ‘slightly’ is important here because Volkswagen is onto a good thing with the Polo. Any radical change is likely to upset current owners who may be thinking of updating their current Polo.

Consequently, Volkswagen has succeeded in keeping a familiar look whilst also giving the new Polo a sufficient makeover to make it look bang up-to-date. It’s only when you park the new model against a 5th generation Polo that you spot the differences.

The big changes are to be found inside. There is a real sense of quality throughout the cabin. As with every Volkswagen, it feels solid. The soft-touch fascia has panel inserts which can be personalised depending on which trim you go for, allowing you to choose from a variety of colours. In other words, you can create your own interior.

In terms of goodies, every version of the new Volkswagen Polo comes with air conditioning, front powered windows, a touch-screen colour display which helps you use the audio system (DAB comes as standard), play MP3 files, CDs and connect your ‘phone via Bluetooth. There are even driver tips and journey details. You can also, when safe to do so, read, compose and send SMS messages using the touch-screen display. To be honest, it’s the sort of kit you would only expect to find in a much more expensive car. The same applies with the level of safety equipment, most of which you will never know about until you suddenly need it. You are surrounded by air bags. There is an emergency assist braking and pedestrian monitoring.

Oh, talking of expense, one thing that hasn’t changed with the new Volkswagen Polo, is that it still represents terrific value for money and comes with a high level of standard specification.

Prices for the new Polo start at £13,855. This gets you into the Polo S with a 64bhp 1.0 litre TSi petrol engine.

Add £775 and move up to the Polo SE which means you now get powered and heated door mirrors, powered front and rear windows, really smart alloy wheels, and a leather trimmed multi-function steering wheel. You also get Volkswagen’s amazing Car-Net App-Connect smartphone integration which shows your mobile phone apps on the car’s touch-screen. You also have the choice of 5-speed manual or 7-speed automatic gearbox.

The engine choice is also broad with a selection of TSi petrol engines with varying power outputs or an incredibly economical 1.6 litre TDi diesel engine. You‘ll manage 76mpg yet still achieve a 0-60 mph time in a shade over 12 seconds.

One of your favourites is the Volkswagen Polo R-Line (£17,830) which gives the car a seriously purposeful appearance thanks to special front and rear bumpers, stunning alloy wheels, tinted rear windows and sports seats. If you want the perfect combination of performance and economy, head for the 114bhp 1.0 TSi petrol engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. You will reach 60mph in 9.5 seconds. You can have some fun without taking a hit in the pocket.

If luxury is the name of your game, you will love the Polo SEL, but if you want some serious performance, then it has to be the Polo GTi which has a punchy 197 bhp 2.0 litre TSi engine giving you a 0-60 sprint in 6.7 seconds. We’re in hot-hatch territory.

Lastly, if you want the ultimate Volkswagen Polo with performance and luxury, go for the GTi Plus. Wow.

Which engine would suit your needs?  As usual, it comes down to how you intend using your new Polo. If you expect to cover a lot of miles or regularly travel with a hefty load, go for the TDi diesels.

Every Volkswagen Polo, even the sporty ones, has a comfortable ride. The seats are supportive and there’s loads of room for both passengers and their clobber. It will happily trundle around on the school run or cruise along the motorway for holiday outings. The car will appeal to anyone who needs to commute, go to the shops or cover high mileages.

You also get peace of mind thanks to a 3yr / 60,000 mile warranty.

To be honest, the choice of Volkswagen Polos is so broad that it’s tricky figuring out which one to go for. Simply looking at the price is often the wrong way to go about it.

The best solution is to speak to the guys at Pulman Volkswagen. They will know precisely which engine is ideal for you and which level of trim you should go for. They’ll also help you with any optional extras which can make your new Volkswagen Polo seem even more special. There will also be various purchasing options…some that you may not have thought about.

Also between the 18th May and 4th June 2018, there is a Polo event, which means you could save up to £1,140 off list price, have £500 towards your deposit contribution, get a year’s free insurance and 2 free services with Volkswagen PCP finance at 6.3% APR Representative.

So, give them a call or drop into one of the Pulman Volkswagen retailers, and they’ll soon get you sorted. Pulman are the only family-run Volkswagen retailer in the North East, delivering a fantastic customer experience for over twenty years.

It isn’t some sort of fluke that the Volkswagen Polo is one of Britain’s most popular cars. Go along to Pulman Volkswagen….see what the fuss is all about.

Pulman Behind the Scenes: Polo and T-Roc Edition

Hello everyone,

Gemma here again! Recently we had a very exciting shoot with the team at The Social Co. and journalist Graham Courtney. We took the fantastic new T-Roc and Polo out for a spin around Durham and got some great shots – we can’t wait to show you the video!

Graham Courtney, a motoring writer for Sport Magazine and all-round car enthusiast, was our presenter. Talking us through the Polo he showed off the fantastic technology including the amazing ‘Car-Net App-Connect’ smartphone integration, touchscreen colour display, emergency assist and pedestrian monitoring!

After giving the Polo a road test not dissimilar to the F1 around Durham city center, Graham took the T-Roc for a spin down the country roads around Finchale Abbey. Luckily the roads were a bit quieter and we managed to get some action shots.

T-Roc Behind the Scenes

Graham seemed to get the better end of the bargain here though – a lot of walking up and down the road for myself and  James and Callum (the camera crew) – while Graham raced around the country corners. Born confident, the T-Roc was up to the county road challenge. Luckily, the T-Roc comes with optional 4MOTION for ideal traction that lets you tackle almost any terrain!

Keep your eyes on our social media for the T-Roc video – we can’t wait to show it to you! This year has been a fantastic year for Volkswagen with the launch of the new T-Roc and Polo. With the upcoming T-Cross on the horizon, we can’t wait to see what the next year brings.

Here at Pulman we are incredibly proud to be the only family-run Volkswagen retailer in the North East. #ThatsPulman – delivering a fantastic customer experience. Want to know more about the T-Roc? Click here. You can check out our latest Polo offers here

Buying a Used Car: Your Complete Guide to Finance

Buying a used car is no simple decision! From buying outright, to buying on finance, there are many options to consider. But don’t worry, here at Pulman we are here to help!

So first up, can I buy a used car on finance?

Getting a car on finance helps you spread the cost of a used car over a series of monthly payments, the most common being PCP and HP agreements. Both of these finance types will require you to pay an initial deposit followed by a set number of monthly payments.

As with all finance agreements, you’ll have to carefully consider whether you can afford the monthly payments before you sign a contract. If you have any concerns you can give a member of the Pulman team a call – we are always happy to help!

What is used car Hire Purchase Finance?

If you buy a used car using Hire Purchase (HP) finance you’ll pay an initial deposit and a number of monthly payments over an agreed period. The amount you pay each month will depend on the car’s price, the size of the deposit and the length of your finance term. If you pay a large deposit, your monthly payments will be reduced and vice versa.

Pro: Once you have made the final payment, you will own the car to keep or sell on.

Con: HP finance comes with finance agreements eg. mileage caps.  if you exceed this limit, or return the car in poor condition, you may have to pay a bit extra.

What is used car Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) finance?

Similarly, used car PCP finance requires you to pay an initial deposit and a set number of monthly payments. The deposit and monthly payment amount will depend on the car’s price. At the end of this, you can either pay a lump sum (balloon payment) to purchase the car outright, return the vehicle or sell it privately to pay off the remainder

Pro: This suits people who want to change their car frequently, and is based around a minimum guaranteed future value for the car.

Con: PCP finance agreements include mileage caps too – if you exceed this limit, or return the car in poor condition, you may have to pay a bit extra.

Can I finance a used car with a bank loan?

Bank loans can be used to finance used cars in the same way as a brand-new model. The interest rate and the amount you’ll have to repay each month will be set by the bank.

Pro: The type of personal finance could suit you better if you don’t have enough set aside for a large deposit. Unlike the other finance types mentioned, you’ll be free to sell the car on at any point

Con: Using brand finance, for example, Volkswagen Financial Services, means you could receive additional benefits such as lower interest rate.

Why Choose Pulman Used Cars?

At Pulman you’re not only guaranteed the perfect used car, but also a fantastic customer experience. With showrooms across Durham and Sunderland, we are a family run retailer offering a great selection of used vehicles and much more. Whether you’re looking for the car of your dreams, or service, repair and maintenance options, Pulman Used Cars can help you every step of the way. You can find all of our used stock here

Using Your Volkswagen Parking Cameras

A good all-round view is a prerequisite for safe parking, but isn’t it often difficult to get a full view around your entire car? Luckily we are here to help! Volkswagen Parking Cameras are small helpers with big effects!  A total of four cameras – installed at the rear, in the exterior mirrors and in the radiator grille – show you images of the  surrounding area and project a live image in the cockpit display from a birds-eye perspective.

Passat Rear View Camera

Have you ever wanted to literally look around the corner when pulling out at a junction? Check out our Area View cameras! The camera is positioned in the radiator grille, and set slightly forward so it can acquire images of the zones to the left and right of it. This means you will be able to view a live image of approaching cross traffic on the display.

The Rear View gives you eyes in the back of your head! The system enables a view behind the vehicle, thereby indicating whether the rear zone is clear. For the first time in the Golf Mk 6, when reverse gear is engaged, the rear camera mounted in the hinged Volkswagen logo is automatically activated. This system can also assist in coupling a trailer to the vehicle by showing a driving line to the towing bracket on the camera image in the trailer view, so that you can guide the vehicle precisely to it.

What is the best family car? Pulman Review the Volkswagen Touran

A little over 15 years ago – in March 2003 – Volkswagen launched the first Touran on the market. Since then, over three model generations, the Touran has developed into a best-selling vehicle and a market leader in its segment in Europe.

After delivering a total of 1.9 million units, Volkswagen developed a completely new generation of the Touran and introduced it in a world premiere in 2015. This was the first time we saw the Touran with the impressive armada of assistance systems that it has today. These included the optional ‘Car-Net Cam Connect’, which parents could use to keep an eye on their children via a camera and can see on the infotainment system monitor.

It also offered an electronic voice amplification. A handy piece of technology that amplifies a passengers’ voice via a microphone and their speech is output over the Tourans fantastic loudspeakers!

The current Touran stands our with one of the largest luggage compartments in its class (up to 834 litres with five people on-board), an ISOFIX child seat system and 3 zone automatic air conditioner.

Looking for your next family car? The Touran is one of the best thought-out family cars of its time. Check out our offers here

The SEAT Arona wins Red Dot Award

It’s another win for the SEAT Arona! The new Arona has been singled out as Best Product Design 2018 by the prestigious Red Dot Award design competition. This recognition highlights the fresh, dynamic and robust crossover design offered by the SEAT Arona. Its exterior and interior design and multiple personalisation options were the key aspects in selecting the SEAT Arona SUV as winner for 2018.

Since 1954, the Red Dot Award has been one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world, giving international recognition to quality and innovation. So who decides on the winner? The Red Dot Award: Product Design Jury is made up of 40 experts from all over the world who are not permitted to be part of any industrial manufacturing company nor can they participate in the vote for those products in which they may have been involved.

We knew the SEAT Arona was fantastic thanks to its compact measurements and dynamic behaviour – which is ideal for nimble city commutes, motorway driving or countryside getaways. At the same time, the Arona is renowned for its incredibly safe and easy to use applied technology, as well as its comfort. On top of this, we are thrilled that the Arona has been recognised for design, yet another aspect that helps the Arona stand out in a very overcrowded SUV segment.
“We are extremely delighted to receive one of the most prestigious design award for the SEAT Arona. We wanted to give a distinct crossover character, for day to day life and for the urban jungle”, said SEAT Design Director Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos. “The SEAT Arona is yet another example of fresh, young, functional, adventurous and comfortable design”.

The SEAT Arona is easily recognisable due to its highly expressive full LED triangular headlights and its iconic daylights. The Arona’s robust front follows the same structure as the Ateca, with a three-dimensional look that’s more pronounced, without being aggressive. The roof has roof rails, comes with line details that evoke the aesthetics of all-terrain vehicles and is customisable – without a doubt, this car has its own personality. This continues in its interior, which stands out not only in horizontal proportions that emphasise and enhance the car’s size, giving an even greater feeling of roominess and space inside, but in its increased sophistication as well.

The High Console Concept also gives the console more prominence, which affects the safety and ergonomics, since every element is positioned so that you barely have to look away from the road while driving. Particular attention has been paid to the driver’s seat, and all of the instruments are oriented toward the driver. Everything is within reach, allowing for easy adjustments and increased safety. Do you make a lot of long journeys? The seats are more comfortable and provide a greater feeling of protection while holding the passengers in place more securely. The fabrics, shades and colours are exclusive to the new SEAT Arona, whose interior colours and trims offer many possibilities for personalisation, with the console, for example, being painted to match the dashboard.

Being able to customise the Arona means your car is as unique as you are. Colour-wise, the Arona is divided into two: the lower body, on the one hand, and the roof, plus the pillars, on the other. The roof can be grey, black, orange or the same colour as the body. You’re certainly not limited with the Arona – there are 68 possible colour combinations in total.

The Arona has stormed into SEAT showrooms after the Early Bird Launch event. In a little more than three months, SEAT have already delivered 25,000 units of the new crossover. By the end of the year, SEAT will release the Arona TGI, which will be the first SUV worldwide equipped with a Compressed Natural Gas engine!

Want to take the new Arona for a test drive? Head over to Pulman SEAT too book now! It has been an exciting year for Pulman SEAT, we are proud to announce that once again we have been crowned ‘Best Sales Team in the Country for 2017! Pulman SEAT, based in Southwick Sunderland, also scooped the prize for best service and fleet team for 2017.
