Behind The Scenes For The CUPRA Ateca & SEAT Leon CUPRA

Behind the scenes with the SEAT Leon CUPRA and CUPRA Ateca

This month we went behind the scenes for our latest car reviews for the sporty performance CUPRA Ateca and the SEAT Leon CUPRA…

When we organise a behind the scenes review day we will always select two cars to film throughout the day; one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. For this filming day we chose the sporty models from Pulman SEAT; the CUPRA Ateca and the SEAT Leon CUPRA.

CUPRA Ateca

We took the CUPRA Ateca out for filming first in the morning and decided to take the SUV to Herrington Park and the roads around the back of Penshaw Monument near Offerton, as these areas would really showcase the sporty feel of the CUPRA brand. Thankfully the weather stayed dry for us although prediction suggested rain and just as we were finishing up the sun came out! Read a little more below about the CUPRA Ateca.

It really is an SUV where performance meets style, reaching speeds of 60mph in just 5.2 seconds from a 2.0 litre turbocharged 296bhp engine! To look at, the CUPRA Ateca offers a pair of twin exhaust pipes, rear spoiler, dark tinted rear windows, metallic paint as standard and much more!

The CUPRA Ateca really is a fantastic drive and the specification, even on the standard trim, is fully loaded for safety and entertainment. Standard specification includes Smartphone Integration, Air Conditioning, Satellite Navigation, Rear View Camera, DAB Digital Radio and a 360 Degree Surround Camera to name just a few of the features!

SEAT Leon CUPRA

In the afternoon we decided to take the SEAT Leon CUPRA around the Souter Lighthouse in Marsden near Sunderland. We chose this location as our car reviews always try to include well-known landmarks from the areas our sites are based in or around. Unfortunately, the weather predictions caught up with us and we were greeted with rain and wind coming straight from the North Sea! Let’s find out more about the Leon CUPRA below!

The Leon CUPRA really does make heads turn with its high performance look and attractive 19” ‘CUPRA Machined’ alloy wheels along with a uniquely styled front grille and pair of twin exhaust pipes. Step inside and the Leon CUPRA is loaded with technological features as standard which include Satellite Navigation, Full Link Smartphone Integration, Rear View Camera, Front Sports Seats and Suspension, DAB Radio and much more!

What It’s Like Working Behind The Scenes At The Pulman Car Reviews

Working behind the scenes at the car reviews with Pulman Group

Speaking to family and friends about the recent car reviews we have been involved in, a lot of questions about what goes on behind the scenes arose from the conversation! So, we’ve gathered the most common questions asked from relatives and will answer what goes on behind the scenes in this blog…

How do you choose which cars to video and the locations?

Usually the cars which we choose for reviews are the latest models to the Volkswagen, SKODA and SEAT ranges. We work alongside Graham Courtney, avid car enthusiast Motor Journalist and North East correspondent for talkSPORT radio, and The Social Co. to create the reviews. We then put all of our heads together to decide on suitable locations for each car. Usually the location is in Durham & Sunderland to keep in line with the Pulman brand origin.

How long does a typical review video take?

Prior to the day of filming, Graham and Pulman together will create a script for the selected car before final proof, this is then sent over to The Social Co. so they can plan the shots and areas to use at the selected locations. At our end, we communicate with the branch where we are sourcing the car from to ensure it is ready for its film debut.

On the day it can take between 2 to 3 hours to get all of the shots required, this includes driving to the locations too! Usually the exterior shots will all be taken first, this is a mixture between video and image shots. Also, Graham will record the on the road review from the driver’s seat which is an overview of the car whilst driving along the location.

Afterwards Graham will send across the voiceover for all of the script to both Pulman and The Social Co. and the editing begins which usually takes around a week.

What happens when you are behind the scenes at the car reviews?

Behind the scenes we will coordinate with The Social Co. and Graham on which shots to take and which areas of the location to use. We also like to take our own images and short videos to share on our social channels to keep our followers up-to-date! We will also ensure there are no obstructions in the shots such as cones, rubbish or people (unless we have their consent to do so!).

What are the latest car reviews you’ve been involved in?

On Wednesday 20th March we recorded reviews for the new 7-seater SEAT Tarraco and the new all electric Volkswagen e-Golf around the Sunderland area. Thankfully the weather stayed dry and it was relatively warm, just a little windy!

SEAT Tarraco at Sunderland Stadium of Light from Pulman

Tell me a little bit more about the SEAT Tarraco review…

So, we decided to take the SEAT Tarraco to the Stadium of Light on the morning, with our SEAT showroom based in Sunderland, we thought this would be the perfect location. Obviously, we spoke to the security at the stadium to see which areas we could use and they advised us where we could go. We started with the exterior shots and then moved onto the drive road review, then we moved to the interior shots. During the video The Social Co. refers back to the script so they know which key shots to take as well as adding any additional shots which will look good in the final video.

And the Volkswagen e-Golf too…

For the Volkswagen e-Golf after driving down by the river at North Hylton, we decided to make a last-minute decision to head to Roker Beach with the weather being positively mild and we have to admit it is a stunning location! The e-Golf was very quick for acceleration as you have 100% power instantly, so we arrived at the location quickly! The same process applied during the afternoon shoot apart from the exterior and interior video was completed before moving onto the drive road review. It was a little windy down Roker Beach but a great location, we also met a lovely couple walking their two Border Collie Sheepdogs who we spoke to about electric cars!

Anything else to add?

Overall a very positive day for both reviews! Our car reviews wouldn’t be a success without the help of our voiceover, Graham Courtney and the hard work from The Social Co. in Durham. OUR GOLF’S ELECTRIC

New e-Golf at Pulman Volkswagen

Did you know that according to the Office for National Statistics, the average weekday commute for UK drivers is around 10 miles. Throw in a few diversions on the school run or to the shops and let’s call it 120 miles per working week.

If that sounds about right for you, then you need to buy the Volkswagen e-Golf.

The e-Golf is Volkswagen’s all-electric, battery powered version of one of the UK’s most successful and popular cars. You have all of the traditional Golf attributes like quality of build, reliability, comfort, interior space and high standard of specification, but without a petrol or diesel engine under the bonnet.

Of course, trundling through traffic on your daily commute will ruin your fuel consumption under normal circumstances, but in the e-Golf, that doesn’t matter. In fact, slow, steady driving will help matters.

e-Golf interior

Volkswagen admit that, okay, under perfect, warm conditions, the e-Golf has a battery range of 144 miles, but in the real world of miserable British weather, it’s likely to drop to somewhere in the region of 130 miles. However, for a lot of people that will easily cater for the Monday – Friday total.

And here’s the clincher. If you set off on Monday morning with a fully charged battery, you won’t need to do a thing until the weekend, and your total cost of ‘fuel’ will be in the region of £3. All you have to do on Sunday evening is plug the e-Golf into your household mains via a 3-pin plug, leave it to gently charge for around 12 hours….and bingo, you’re ready for a working week of cheap motoring. You can have a fast charger installed or, if you have one at work, it allows you to reach an 80 per cent charge in 45 minutes.

e-Golf charging station

You are also exempt from road fund tax and won’t have to pay congestion charge tolls. Business users can benefit from income tax advantages too.

Apart from all of that, the Volkswagen e-Golf is just, well, like any other Golf. It’s lively too with 0-60 mph taking only 9.5 seconds because, unlike with a petrol or diesel engine where you need to allow the revs to rise before reaching peak power, you have 100 per cent power with an electric car…instantly.

In terms of kit, you get sat nav, air con, Car-Net App Connect which allows you to mirror your smart phone onto the Golf’s touchscreen. There are parking sensors front and rear, powered windows and mirrors (heated), DAB radio and a host of safety kit.

Interested? The best idea to find out more is to go along to Pulman Volkswagen in Durham or Sunderland. Their experts will take your through all of the benefits of going electric.

Prices for the Volkswagen e-Golf start at £33,240.

The Geneva Motor Show 2019

The Geneva Motor Show 2019 opened its doors on Tuesday 7th March and the Pulman brands have certainly unveiled some showstopping models which include high performance and electric cars…

1,2,3 For The SUVs!

The latest addition to Volkswagen’s high performance division following the Golf R is the T-Roc R SUV combining performance and lifestyle all under one roof.

New Volkswagen T-Roc

There’s no guessing why car enthusiasts are already gasping to get their hands on one, with Volkswagen claiming the new T-Roc R a 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds and reaching top speeds up to 155mph. It’s already been around the famous Nürburgring completing numerous laps in disguise undergoing development testing.

There is an array of options available with standout sport features including the Akrapovic sports exhaust and 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside the sport-look continues with fabric sport seats, an additional ‘race’ driving mode added to the selection and a flat-bottomed R steering wheel.

The new T-Roc R is expected to be with us by the end of the year!

Superior performance, maximum comfort and clean giant all sum up the new Touareg V8 TDI which is celebrating its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.

This SUV is now the most powerful model from the Volkswagen brand with its output of 310 kW / 421 PS and goes from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds! The new V8 version also complies with the Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard.

New Volkswagen Touareg

As standard you’ll be indulged in comfort from the leather interior to the air suspension through to the glass covered Innovision Cockpit and driver assist systems. The assist systems includes ‘Traffic Jam and Roadwork Lane Assist’ and ‘Night Vision’ which detects pedestrians and animals using a thermal image camera maximising your safety whilst in the giant SUV.

The new Volkswagen Touareg is due to come to market in May 2019 and the top model range will be available in two packages; Elegance (technical interior design with metal and cool colour tones) or Atmosphere (warm interior design with wood and natural tones)

The new SKODA Kamiq is the smallest SUV model to join the SKODA family and is expected to go on sale in Autumn 2019, estimated to start from £16,000.

New SKODA Kamiq

Although the styling mimics its larger siblings, the Karoq & Kodiaq, the Kamiq has set a new bold statement amongst the family with unique features. Features include a more upright front grille, slimmer LED lights, and rather than the brand’s logo badge on the rear of the car, SKODA is spelt out across the boot lid. Inside the SKODA Kamiq offers a more digital environment than the traditional SKODAs with an infotainment touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard, lane assist and automatic emergency braking as standard.

The front and rear axles have been set further apart creating extra space inside, especially in terms of leg room for rear seat passengers and can easily be adapted depending on your intended use of the new Kamiq. For example, the rear bench splits and folds creating that extra space in the back, perfect if you’re moving house or travelling on a summer holiday! To add to that, if you’re visiting a DIY store and need to transport a longer item back to your home, the front passenger seat can fold down!

Waiting until the second day of the Geneva event, Cupra revealed a new Special Edition of the Ateca SUV.

CUPRA Ateca Special Edition

This performance SUV is fitted with Cupra’s trademark copper detailing across the door mirrors, spoiler and wheels. The copper continues inside as does the sporty-feel with sports seats, rear seats and door panels all finished in Petrol Blue Alcantara.

Although the specification hasn’t been fully released we do know this new performance car is due to open for orders by the end of 2019.

To celebrate one year since the Cupra brand was launched separately from SEAT, Cupra are celebrating by revealing the Cupra Formentor concept, which you may notice is similar to the Cupra Ateca Special Edition above!

CUPRA Formentor

Although full specification is yet to be released the Formentor is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain which produces 242bhp. Cupra claim that the coupe-SUV is capable of driving around 30 miles on electric power alone!

Designed to be a halo car for the Cupra brand, the Formentor features a new floating dashboard layout, a set of carbon-fibre-backed bucket seats, a digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch panoramic infotainment system with satellite navigation.

The Cupra Formentor is due to go on sale in 2020.

It’s Electrifying…

Inspired by the 1960s and 1970s Beetle-based dune buggy, Volkswagen have introduced the ID Buggy concept, one of the craziest concepts revealed at Geneva Motor Show in 2019, and we agree you’d certainly be seen on the streets driving it!

Volkswagen ID Buggy Concept

Reaching speeds of up to 99mph and covering 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds, this rear-mounted electric motor offers a range of 155 miles (during WLTP test cycle), perfect for the thrill seekers travelling through dunes & across beaches. Not to forget the Buggy is equipped with off-road tyres and LED lit VW logos just to make it look that little more thrilling!

The Volkswagen ID Buggy concept is currently built with two seats, but any production model is likely to feature four seats. As you can see above the ID Buddy has no doors or a roof, this is for easy access, however, a detachable cover has been developed to protect the driver and passengers from poor weather conditions.

VW design chief Klaus Bischoff told Autocar, “The Buggy is all about going back to basics, we wanted to show that there will be a place for simple, fun cars in the future.” And with that statement, we will leave it here.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in Ultra Yellow, the all-electric SKODA VISION iV concept car certainly turned heads at the SKODA stand.

SKODA VISION iV Concept

The SUV-coupe impresses with sporty, emotive lines and a dynamic driving experience is promised by all-wheel drive and two electric motors providing 303bhp and offering a range of 310 miles (on the WLTP test cycle). In just 30 minutes the battery can be charged to 80% of its capacity using the latest rapid chargers, so you won’t need to wait too long! SKODA claims the VISION iV can go from 0-62mph in just 5.9 seconds and reach an electronically top speed of 112mph.

Inside the VISION iV concept there is a unique two-spoke steering wheel accompanied by a pair of deep bucket seats for added comfort. Technology-wise there is a floating infotainment system in the middle of the dash where two mobile phones can be connected to the system and the dash supports wireless charging. Other highlights include permanent on-board 5G connection, real-time traffic updates and intelligent speech recognition.

The VISION iV production model is expected to arrive late 2020, early 2021.

Adapting to city life and the environment, SKODA have provided an insight to the future of microbility with the Klement; an electric two-wheel concept.

SKODA Klement Concept

The e-bike from SKODA is fully electric and includes a range of quirky features which you wouldn’t usually find on previous e-bikes. A few examples are fixed pedals providing comfort for the rider, cruise control, hill hold assist, a heated seat and can reach speeds of up to 28mph!

Guido Haak, Head of Product Management at ŠKODA AUTO, said, “Micromobility is becoming increasingly important in cities. By presenting the KLEMENT at the Geneva Motor Show, we are showcasing our vision for the future of micromobility: sustainable, innovative, electric and with a pure, modern design.”

Expected to go on sale in 2020, SEAT have revealed the el-Born concept car, SEAT’s first 100% electric hatchback. Described as futuristic, practical and comfortable, the SEAT el-Born is the next generation of family hatchbacks following on from the SEAT Leon.

SEAT el-Born Concept

Providing a range of 261 miles (during the WLTP test cycle) and can cover the 0-62mph sprint in 7.5 seconds, the el-Born is powered by a single 202bhp electric motor. Heading on a longer journey? Don’t worry, charging to 80% of the capacity takes just 47 minutes, so that’s a perfect excuse for a quick pit stop for some food!

Step inside the SEAT el-Born and you’ll find an array of features to keep yourself & passengers occupied during your journeys including a 10 inch touchscreen infotainment system which angles more towards the driver. As there is no engine, SEAT have maximised the room inside the car which provides numerous storage solutions including under the centre console between the two front seats.

Last But Certainly Not Least…

Limited to only 2,000 units, Volkswagen have introduced the Passat Variant R-Line Edition with high-end configuration and top-of-the-range engines.

Passat Variant R-Line Edition

As it’s painted in a Moonstone Grey finish, VW have contrasted the design with black features including a high-gloss black roof, wing mirror caps and roof rail. Step inside and the black finish dominates the interior.

The latest technology is included as standard in the new Variant R-Line including Digital Cockpit and 9.2-inch Discover Pro navigation system with integrated SIM card and R-Line start screen. Also there’s a bonus for Apple Users thanks to the new wireless App Connect; iPhone apps can be wirelessly integrated into the infotainment system via Bluetooth for the first time, using Apple CarPlay. Another new feature is Travel Assist, this system means that the Passat is one of the first cars worldwide to have partially assisted driving up to speeds of 130mph.

Pre-sales of the limited edition will begin in Europe in May.

T-CROSS BREAKS COVER

New Volkswagen T-Cross

March sees the arrival at Pulman Volkswagen of the latest Volkswagen model…the T-Cross…which is Volkswagen’s first small SUV. It’s an urban crossover which offers a combination of style, practicality, flexibility, connectivity and economy, and sets new standards for its class. It will sit below the Tiguan and T-Roc in the Volkswagen SUV range, but still offer all of the convenience that you get from a larger SUV. A large chunk of the T-Cross running-gear is based on the tried and tested Volkswagen Polo.

There’s a choice of three turbocharged petrol engines. A pair of 1.0 TSI three-cylinder petrol engines develop either 94 or 113 bhp while for additional performance, a 4-cylinder 1.5 TSI engine, which develops 148bhp, will appear later in the year. Initially, there will be no diesel engine for the T-Cross in the UK but that is likely to change if there is sufficient demand. You can choose from a 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed auto.

There are four levels of trim…S, SE, SEL and R-Line.

Standard equipment for the new T-Cross includes numerous driver assistance systems which were previously reserved for higher vehicle classes. There will also be air conditioning and VW’s usual selection of connectivity including Bluetooth. Sliding rear seats are fitted as standard, allowing an additional 70 litres of storage capacity, or up to 140 mm of extra rear leg room.

T-Cross space options

The entire T-Cross range is expected to start in the region of £16,750 but to whet everyone’s appetite, Volkswagen is introducing an exclusive limited edition…the T-Cross First Edition. It will be available to only 250 UK customers. Order books are now open.

The T-Cross First Edition is fully loaded with upgraded specification including a Beats sound system with 300-watt output and an extra subwoofer. It also comes with Discover Media satellite navigation, LED headlights and super-stylish 18-inch alloy wheels. Each of the exclusive 250 First Edition models will be finished in Pure White with silver roof rails and unique black styling throughout.

Interior of the T-Cross

All T-Cross First Edition models are powered by Volkswagen’s frugal 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with 114 bhp, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, and two-wheel drive. As with the regular T-Cross a high level of safety technology is included, with Front Assist including autonomous emergency braking, blind spot sensors, adaptive cruise control and Lane Assist all featured as standard.

The T-Cross First Edition costs £23,150…models will arrive at our Pulman Volkswagen showrooms in April.

TIME TO TAKE A SEAT

New SEAT Leon ST

Most people will be now be aware that SEAT is part of the Volkswagen, Audi, SKODA stable. This of course is no bad thing because you have the background of well-established manufacturers who’ve got a cracking reputation. Okay, a lot of the cars share a fair chunk of equipment in terms of engines and stuff like the audio system, sat nav etc, but, again, that should be seen as a plus point.

However, here’s the big plus point. When you compare something like the SEAT Lean ST with the Volkswagen Golf estate you’ll instantly spot one vitally important ingredient.

The SEAT Leon ST is cheaper by around about £2000.

Buy an entry level Leon ST, and don’t instantly compare the prices because you also need to compare the specification like-for-like.

There are six levels of trim starting with SE at £19,255, but we like the SE Dynamic (add £755) which means that along with the standard spec of colour touchscreen, DAB radio, Bluetooth, multi-function steering wheel, powered windows, central locking, height adjustment to both front seats, air con and cruise control, you also add satellite navigation, front and rear parking sensors, bigger and smarter alloys and tinted rear windows. It’s worth the extra outlay to make the car feel a bit more special.

SEAT Leon ST technology

In terms of petrol engine choices there is everything from the entry level 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder, 113 bhp TSi petrol engine up to a 2.0 litre 187bhp unit. There’s also a 1.6 litre TDi 113 bhp diesel in between.

If economy is the name of your game, then 55mpg from the diesel engine will appeal, but the terrific 1.0 litre petrol engine isn’t far away (47mpg) and has similar performance with 0-60 taking a shade over 10 seconds. It sounds really good too. You’ll also appreciate the smooth, quiet delivery from the petrol engine, especially if you’re using your Lean ST for family transport on a long holiday trip.

The others bonus for keen drivers is that SEAT has a reputation for producing cars with a sporty characteristic. The Leon ST is no exception. Compared to something like the VW Golf estate or the SKODA Octavia estate the ride is firmer, but it’s never uncomfortable and actually is really well controlled. Ok, you feel the lumps and bumps around town, but on motorways there’s nothing in it.

SEAT Leon ST

Build quality is excellent and, although looks are a personal thing, we think the Lean ST is really smart.

SEAT is still a brand that people forget about…but they don’t know what they’re missing.

The SEAT Leon ST is roomy, well equipped, decently priced, good to drive and comfortable. It should be ultra-reliable too. Before you know it, it’ll become a key part of the family.

For more information on the new SEAT Leon ST visit //pulmanseat.co.uk/new/cars/leon-st

PERFECT ALL-ROUNDER

New Volkswagen Tiguan at Pulman Volkswagen

The Tiguan is a really important car for Volkswagen. It’s their third biggest seller in the UK behind the Golf and Polo. Consequently, when the time came to launch the latest edition of the Tiguan, VW was cautious in terms of the exterior styling.

That’s no bad thing because the Tiguan is instantly recognisable. It’s a tad wider and longer but it has a lower roof line, all of which makes the new Tiguan look more hunky.

And, if you go for the R-Line, you end up with a Tiguan that also looks sporty. If looks are important to you, this is the one to go for.

Interior of the Volkswagen Tiguan

The Volkswagen Tiguan range starts at £23,990. No matter which level of trim you go for, you will have access to most of the engine range, all-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. Entry level models use a 1.5 litre 129 bhp petrol engine, 6-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive only. You can also opt for a 2.0 litre diesel engine developing 148bhp.

Further up the trim range sees the arrival of a 148bhp petrol unit, a 187bhp diesel engine and a powerful but smooth, 2.0 litre petrol engine which delivers 227bhp.

The recently launched Match trim will be the most popular using the 148bhp diesel engine (58.9mpg, 0-60 in 9.3 seconds and a top speed of 127mph), but there’s something about the R-Line. It makes the Tiguan stand out from the crowd. You get 20inch alloys, side skirts, wheel arch extensions, sports seats, sat nav, air con, brilliant audio system with DAB etc. In fact, there’s nothing you need to add expect deciding whether you want the benefit of 4MOTION all-wheel drive. If you do you’ll need a further £1890.

Everything else about the R-Line is as per the rest of the range. It’s roomy, comfortable and, thanks to a large boot, will be ideal as either school run transportation or loaded to the gunwales for a trip to a holiday resort.

Options for passengers in the Tiguan

If you fancy some extra seating, try the Tiguan Allspace. Thanks to a longer wheelbase it has space for seven people.

If you need a car that becomes a cherished member of your family, the Volkswagen Tiguan will be ideal. Go along to your local Pulman Volkswagen showroom and take a look at the Tiguan and discover why it has become such a familiar sight on our roads.

Need a perfect all-rounder….you’ll love the Volkswagen Tiguan.

VW + SUV = T-Roc

New T-Roc

Volkswagen have become masters of SUVs, but they needed a smaller model to fit below the Tiguan and Touareg. Please welcome the T-Roc.

There are currently five levels of trim. Everything kicks off with the T-Roc S at £19,270, powered by a 1.0 litre 114bhp TSi petrol engine using a 6-speed manual gearbox. It’s lively too. 0-60 takes 10 seconds but you’ll still manage around 55mpg.

The S trim includes air conditioning, heated door mirrors, height adjustment to the front seats, electric windows all-round, remote central locking, tyre pressure monitor and a brilliant audio system which comes with DAB radio and the facility to play MP3s through the USB socket. The 8inch colour touch-screen looks really smart and very hi-tech.

Inside the Volkswagen T-Roc

You also get an extensive list of safety gadgetry including lane assist (it tells you if you’re wandering from your lane), front assist (it applies the brakes automatically in an emergency) and a host of air bags. The T-Roc is one of the safest cars ever built by Volkswagen.

For a bigger choice of engines, move up to the VW T-Roc SE (from £20,935). How about something like the seriously powerful 1.5 litre TSi petrol engine which whisks you to 60mph in a shade over 8 seconds yet will still crack the 50mpg barrier. You can also opt for a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

Our favourite trim is the VW T-Roc Design which sits below the top of the range SEL and R-Line. It allows you to customise your T-Roc with neat touches like a contrasting roof colour, different coloured alloy wheels and a variety of fascia and seat trims.

There is one option that we would seriously recommend; Dynamic Chassis Control which gives you variable suspension settings. You can choose Sport, Comfort and Normal. This allows you to swap between a firm, sporty ride with increased response to the steering and accelerator…or a comfy, cossetting ride for long journeys or when the car is loaded to the gunwales with the family and all of their baggage.

Gearing Up Durham School Pupils For Buying Their First Car!

Durham School at VW Durham

As most of us know from experience it can be pretty daunting when the time comes to purchasing your first car, which is why Pulman Volkswagen Durham provided a short demonstration of the car buying process to Year 12 Pupils from Durham School who are currently learning to drive.

Scott Jenkins, Client Sales Advisor, along with Chris Slater, Head of Communications & IT / Sunderland Sites Manager, provided a presentation to Durham pupils to explain the various options and processes available when it comes to buying your first car, whether it’s a Brand New, Nearly New or Used Car.

The key points covered included going through the configurator on the Pulman Volkswagen website; from selecting the make, model, colour and additional extras. Scott then moved onto explain about the various finance options when purchasing a car (Personal Contract Purchase, Personal Contract Hire, Cash Purchase etc…) before explaining some of the current features found across most of the Volkswagen Range such as Rear Parking Sensors, Apple Carplay & Android Auto. After the on-screen presentation ended, Scott took them across to a Volkswagen Golf for the pupils to look at the technology & design features and how it can differ between trim levels. As being a Year 12 Pupil can be a stressful time with exams, all of the pupils were offered cricket and football-style stress balls after a team photo!

Durham School seminar at VW Durham

Kath Rochester, Director of Co-Curriculum & Senior Housemistress at Durham School, shared her thoughts on the session with the following, “Thank you so much for having us to visit today. It was a fabulous session and really useful for our students.  They really enjoyed learning about buying a car as they really didn’t know much about the process or certainly how they could finance a vehicle.  Scott and Chris pitched the session at the right level and the students felt like they were treated as customers and adults.”

Kath then went onto say, “It proved to be a really valuable experience and hopefully they will take this knowledge with them when they are in a position to make such a purchase.  We are finding quite a few of our teenagers today are generally quite naïve so today’s session was important in tooling them up for the future and opening their eyes to the real world.”

Durham School who contacted Pulman Volkswagen Durham to request if we could provide this seminar, is also introducing other life skill presentations, such as buying your first home, to the PHSE Pupils to develop their knowledge for adulthood.
